South Africans have taken to social media platforms to pay tribute to the late internationally acclaimed actor Presley Chweneyagae.

Chweneyagae, who was affectionately known as ‘Cobrizi’ or ‘Mokwepa’, died yesterday at the age of 40.

He gained international recognition for his leading role in the film ‘Tsotsi‘.

The film won SA’s first Oscar for ‘Best Foreign Language Film’ in 2006.

Artists Thabang Mogoje and Omolemo Mothupi, who worked with Chweneyagae, say they are battling to deal with the loss.

Mogoje says, “Presley was a very, very good guy. He was very creative and stuff. He used to accommodate everyone in our sector. We really learned a lot from him.”

Mothupi says, “Presley’s passing came as a shock. It shattered our hearts as we heard of the news in the morning, and funny enough is that when we started with our program, he was the first introduction to us because we relate so much to him. It’s something that has brought us together as a team.”
