Suspects accused of killing Senzo Meyiwa at the High Court in Pretoria.
A witness from the Legal Practice Council (LPC), Philani Stanley Sambo, has confirmed that Ntokozo Mjiyako was a practising attorney when accused No.: 2, Bongani Ntanzi, allegedly confessed to the murder of Senzo Meyiwa.
Ntanzi is said to have made two confession statements with Mjiyako present at the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Vivian Cronje.
This comes despite Ntanzi previously denying that he knew Mjiyako or that he had ever confessed to the crime.
Sambo was testifying in the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria, where five men are on trial for the 2014 murder of the Bafana Bafana captain.
He also read out Magistrate Cronje’s statement to the court.
Sambo: I invited the deponent to my private office, Mr Bongani Ntanzi, assisted by Mr Ntokozo Mjiyako on request of FM Ntanzi. No other person present. Fidelity number FFC … stroke 2020.”
Baloyi: Now, Mr Sambo, if I can ask you to compare the fidelity fund certificate and exhibit JJ and YY4.
Sambo: The fidelity fund on the certificate is the same as exhibit … are written FCC stroke 2020. The fidelity certificate shows it was issued to Mr Mjiyakho in terms of the application process, that an attorney has to apply on. That is as our requirement.
