The trial within a trial in the asbestos roof matter continues on Thursday at the High Court in Bloemfontein.
Accused number 17 Moroadi Cholota‘s legal representative, Loyiso Makapela, yesterday grilled the second state witness to try and prove Cholota was tortured and intimidated.
Cholota is the former secretary of the former Free State premier, Ace Magashule.
Makapela submitted to the court that refusing Cholota legal representation and charging her with crimes unsupported by evidence is tantamount to mental torture.
Cholota is challenging her extradition process from the United States.
Makapela says Cholota’s rights were violated as she was not given the opportunity for legal representation before investigators conducted an interview with her.
