A 28-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly smuggling explosives into South Africa at the Beitbridge Border Post in Musina, Limpopo.

Police spokesperson, Malesela Ledwaba says the explosives were concealed in a trailer which was being towed by a vehicle.

Ledwaba says the suspect is expected to appear at the Musina Magistrate’s Court on Monday facing a charge of Contravention of the Explosives Act.

“The initial investigations indicate that the consignment was reportedly destined for Cape Town. The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has praised the vigilance and cooperation between various departments at the Beitbridge Port of Entry. She reiterated that the interception of these explosives highlights the effectiveness of our border security measures and the dedication of our officers,” says Ledwaba.
