Rooiwal Water Treatment construction company to be blacklisted

Water and Sanitation Minister Pemmy Majodina says government will not allow Blackhead Consulting, the company previously contracted to upgrade the Rooiwal Wastewater Treatment Works, to get away scot-free.

The company linked to businessman and corruption accused, Edwin Sodi, failed to complete the refurbishment project.

The City of Tshwane has now initiated the process of blacklisting the company and has submitted all relevant documentation to National Treasury.

Majodina was speaking during an oversight visit to the treatment plant near Hammanskraal.

“We cannot allow people to come and do Mickey Mouse work and think that they will run away. They are not off the hook. We are going to assist the municipality to ensure they pay for their sins. This has caused harm in in the area and it is up to us as government at all spheres or also working with the provincial government, that we must bring the issue of trust. People must trust their government that when the government is intervening, it intervenes for the good.”
