Various governmental departments hold events to celebrate International Day of the Boy Child. The Gauteng Legislature is hosting the inaugural Boy-Child Sector Parliament in Alberton, whilst the Department of Basic Education hosts an event to discuss issues facing the boy child.
The engagement seeks to empower and equip young boys to become responsible citizens and active advocates for a violence-free society.
Experts and activists have found that today’s boy children grapple with complex challenges from identity crises toxic expressions of masculinity and if left unaddressed, these struggles manifest in harmful behaviours that perpetuate cycles of violence, inequality, and disengagement.

Gauteng Legislature speaker, Morakane Mosupyoe, says one of the topics is how young boys can contribute to a gender based violence/femicide-free society.
“We are giving them an opportunity to sit in a setting that represents your normal legislature sitting. All the resolutions that are going to be taken today by the boys sector are going to find expression in the portfolio committees,” says Mosupyoe.
Department of Basic Education Minister, Siviwe Gwarube, visited schools and decided to empower a boy learner by allowing him to shadow her for the day.
