Deputy Minister of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Dr Namane Masemola, has established a task team to address ongoing issues at the Makana Municipality in Makhanda, Eastern Cape.

Masemola conducted an oversight visit and cited poor administration as the root cause of the municipality’s problems, which include ageing infrastructure and frequent water supply disruptions.

Masemola announced that an interdepartmental task team made up of engineers would be deployed to take over infrastructure management responsibilities.

“The following forces are going to put together an interdepartmental task team of engineers that must be on site. To do what? It must come and take over responsibilities in the actual management of the infrastructure programmes and the systems of this city,” says Masemola.

He adds, “In the next coming six months, they will take full charge of the management and the running of this municipality.”
