File: Nigerian televangelist Timothy Omotoso appears in the High Court in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape.
Televangelist Timothy Omotoso is expected to appear at the East London Magistrate’s Court this morning, following his arrest at the weekend by the Home Affairs’ Immigration Inspectorate.
While the exact charges against him are not yet clear, the Department of Home Affairs says the arrest follows the rejection of his application to have the Minister of Home Affairs’ decision to declare him a prohibited person in the country overturned.

Omotoso was arrested just after a prayer service in one of his churches in the city and has been detained in the Mdantsane Police station since his arrest on Saturday morning.
Last month, the High Court in Gqeberha acquitted Omotoso and co-accused Lusanda Sulani and Zukiswa Sitho. This after finding them not guilty on charges including rape, sexual assault and human trafficking.
