Joshlin Smith case still open despite conviction: Police

The police in the Western Cape say the Joshlin Smith case is not closed.

This after Judge Nathan Erasmus on Friday ruled that Joshlin’s mother, Kelly Smith and her co-accused her boyfriend, Jacquen Appollis and their friend, Steveno van Rhyn were guilty of kidnapping and trafficking the little girl in February last year.

Police spokesperson Malcolm Pojie says the police were hoping the accused would give an indication of the child’s whereabouts during the court proceedings.

Pojie says Joshlin has not been found and that the Provincial Commissioner made it clear on Friday during a briefing that the case is not just closed just because there is a conviction currently.

“The case is still open and we will still search and investigate. We thought that some of the accused will speak, but unfortunately, it’s their right not to speak in court and they exercised that right. So, we are still searching and we still hoping for information to come forward you know about the whereabouts,” says Pojie.
