AA commends decline in Easter Road crashes and fatalities

The Automobile Association of South Africa (AA) has welcomed the notable drop in road crashes and fatalities during the Easter 2025 period.

Easter road deaths have fallen to their lowest in three years.

The association has attributed this success to proactive planning, coordinated enforcement, and collaboration between the public and private sectors.

The organisation has, however, warned that more is needed to reach national road safety targets, especially in high-risk areas.

“We definitely do feel that early coordination, as well as increased visibility of law enforcement, and strong partnership, are high indicators of the effectiveness in terms of reducing the crashes and the fatalities. It also indicates to us that change is possible, with regards to reversing the trajectory in terms of road crashes, and fatalities on South African roads, especially in a time like the Easter travel period, we know unfortunately brings about the highest number of crashes and fatalities on our roads” AA’s spokesperson Eleanor Mavimbela says.
