DA calls for swift repairs at Riverlea High School following fire

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng has urged the provincial Education Department to swiftly repair the Riverlea High School.

This comes after a fire destroyed 11 classrooms at the school on Monday.

The DA has cited a similar incident at the Lancea Vale Secondary School in Eldorado Park last year.

The party is demanding accountability and prompt restoration of the affected facilities.

DA Shadow MEC for Education in Gauteng, Sergio Isa Dos Santos, says children deserve to be in safe schools.

“The DA will be submitting questions to MEC Matome Chiloane on how many school fires have occurred and whether the school meets fire safety standards. Under the DA government, we would implement a rapid infrastructure recovery plan with firm deadlines and proper structural assessment. Our children deserve safe dignified schools and not broken promises.”
