Flood damage in Umlazi
Victims of the recent heavy rains in the eThekwini municipality have been afforded decent accommodation. Five women and a child were left destitute following floods that caused mudslides in Ward 85 in Umlazi township, in eThekwini, this week.
KwaZulu-Natal Human Settlements MEC Sboniso Duma says these victims will be housed in a hotel in the eThekwini CBD.
Duma and the Minister of Human Settlement, Thembi Simelane, are expected to visit those affected next week.
The department’s provincial spokesperson, Nabezinhle Sibiya, explains, “There are seven community members who are still going to be accommodated, and the department of human settlement at the provincial and national levels, including eThekwini Municipality, and the teams from these departments are working flat out to ensure that those affected are provided with comfortable and decent accommodation. In addition, there is a team that the MEC assigned to visit the affected families in H section, K section, and other areas in Umlazi. And next week the Minister of Human Settlements, Thembi Simelane, will visit KZN.”
