Open sign for the Splash Festival
The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is optimistic that the annual Splash Festival will help stimulate the local economy during the Easter period. The four-day festival is currently underway in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape, and is expected to attract significant crowds.
Mayoral Committee Member for Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Sinebhoongo Kwatsha, says the event includes a variety of attractions that promote local economic activity and community engagement.
“We have your local artists that are performing here. We’ve got sports in place, we’ve got your play—a little bit of a playland. We’ve got your vendors also on site,” says Kwatsha.
“I mean, this is to boost the economy of the city locally. We have approached the SMMEs. I mean, the security, as you’ll find, it’s from local.”
The festival serves as a platform for small businesses and local service providers to benefit from increased tourism and foot traffic, while also offering entertainment for residents and visitors over the Easter weekend.
