Suspect arrested in WSU fatal shooting incident

Eastern Cape police have confirmed the arrest of a 54-year-old suspect in connection with the shooting incident at Walter Sisulu University (WSU) on Tuesday.

This after one student was shot dead and several injured during unrests at the institution.

The suspect has been charged with murder and attempted murder and is expected to appear in court on the 22 of April.

Police spokesperson, Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana says though this arrest is a critical step, the investigation remains active.

Meanwhile earlier today, more than 15 Walter Sisulu University Students have been shot and injured during a standoff between students and security guards.

It is alleged that heavily armed security guards raided Walter Sisulu residences and set off tear gas.

A confrontation between students and security personnel ensued.

The situation remains volatile and the police have been called in to monitor the situation.
