FPB on mission to prevent sale of online child pornography

The content regulatory body, Film and Publications Board (FPB) says it’s attempting to gain access to the dark web in an effort to prevent the sale of child pornography.

Yesterday, the FPB briefed the Select Committee on Economic Development and Trade regarding counter measures on harmful content that is spread via social media and other internet platforms.

The FPB regulates online content with the aim of protecting children and vulnerable citizens from exposure to harmful or explicit content.

FPB’s acting CEO Ephraim Tlhako says, “There’s a marketplace where production is happening and then people who are willing to purchase that for a fee. So, we are saying for us to be much more proactive rather than waiting for complaints to come through, we need to then intercept that and then intercept the supply chain. But obviously that means that we need to work very closely with law enforcement agencies. We need to ensure that we have the necessary skills as it relates to cyber-security.”
