Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of 29-year-old Naylan Smith, who was fatally shot during a hijacking outside his Eersterust home in Pretoria East. The incident occurred on Friday morning when three masked men ambushed Smith in his driveway and fled with his car.
He died en route to the hospital.
The brutal killing has sparked outrage in the community. Residents, angered by rising crime, marched to the local police station to demand improved policing and accountability.
Station Commander, Colonel Sipho Msiza, confirmed the developments.
“It’s a priority case. We want to make sure that the people arrested are brought to book. As we speak, we have one arrested, and in the early hours of the morning another one was arrested. I want to ascertain the custody register and confirm if indeed he’s been arrested, but the information I got today is that they arrested the second one.”
