The state is opposing bail in the case of a 58-year-old teacher who allegedly raped a 13-year-old girl at a primary school in Makotopong outside Polokwane in Limpopo.

The teacher, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the minor, is applying for bail in the Mankweng Magistrates’ Court outside Polokwane.

He allegedly raped the Grade 7  learner on many occasions between July last year and last month.

Residents have since alleged that he may also have raped three other minors over the years.

State Prosecutor, Advocate Joel Mamabolo, says the accused might interfere with investigations if granted.

“The state has an objection that the accused person may be released on bail. We have a strong case against the accused person and this case raised shock and outrage in the community and it is likely that the accused might interfere with investigations if released on bail.”
