A 26-year-old man is expected to appear at the Hendrina Magistrate’s Court in Mpumalanga for the alleged rape of a 6-year-old girl.
It is alleged that two children were sent to buy some items at the accused’s shop when the incident happened.
Provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Donald Mdhluli says the other child ran away when the shopkeeper made his moves on them.
Mdhlui says the youngest of the two was left behind and allegedly raped.
He says the case was reported to the police’s Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
The accused was traced and arrested on Saturday.
