Omotoso acquittal a complete humiliation for NPA: Gender activist

Gender activist Lisa Vetten has described the acquittal of televangelist Timothy Omotoso and two others as a complete humiliation for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).

The high court in Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape acquitted Omotoso, Lusanda Sulani and Zukiswa Sitho yesterday after finding them not guilty on all charges.

They faced 32 charges including rape, human trafficking and racketeering.

The NPA says it is exploring all possible avenues to ensure that the complainants get justice.

Vetten says the NPA failed dismally.

“They just didn’t do a good enough job as prosecutors themselves. I mean that’s very humiliating especially when the judge said something like – at a personal level, I don’t actually believe accused. But from a legal point of view, because they put up such a poor job, they have made their case beyond reasonable doubt. So, it’s a humiliation for the NPA and I think for the complainants travesty of justice,” adds Vetten.
