An analogue tv seen in a room.
The outcome of an ongoing legal bid to invalidate and halt the analogue switch off set for the end of the month, will determine whether the South African TV viewers will be seeing their usual favorite programmes or black screens.
This comes after the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies has set the final date for South Africa’s analogue switch-off to be replaced by the Set Top Boxes (STBs), where all South African households with an income of R3500 per month or less and a working television set, qualify for a government subsidized STB.
Even though this may sound like good news, because migration allows speedy 4G and 5G deployment, the Set Top Box rollouts have its own issues and problems.
