A car steering wheel.
The Western Cape Mobility Department says it has issued 200 speeding fines between the tenth and the 16th of this month across the province.
Minister Isaac Sileku says the highest recorded speed reached 160 kilometres per hour in a 120 kilometre per hour zone.
Sileku says speeding has continued to significantly contribute to fatalities and injuries during road crashes.
He has urged road users to adhere to traffic regulations, particularly during the upcoming long weekend.
“Every motorist has a responsibility to keep our roads safe. We urge all drivers to remain mindful of their speed. Drive responsibly and make safety a priority. Not just over the long weekend but every time you get behind the wheel,” Sileku says.
Across the Western Cape, our traffic law enforcement teams work tirelessly to keep roads safe. From ensuring compliance to responding in emergencies, their dedication makes a real difference!
