Rabie Ridge residents up in arms over prolonged power outage

1 minute

Residents of Rabie Ridge in northern Johannesburg have barricaded roads with rocks and burning tyres. They say they’ve been without electricity for two weeks.

Community member Calvin Bantham says they’re tired of being in the dark.

“Two weeks the community did not have electricity. Last night, the community had to watch the contractors finish and when they asked them they told the community that the cable that they have is only temporary. The cable that is needed is a 300m cable. So surely the problem will occur again. That’s why the community is up in a shutdown so that City Power can see what damage they are causing to this community,” says Bantham.

Police have been deployed to the area.
