Former Municipal Manager of the Doctor JS Moroka Municipality in Mpumalanga, Thami Khubeka, will either serve two years in jail or pay a R50 000 fine. The Middelburg Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Mbombela handed down his sentence yesterday.
It had found Khubeka guilty of contravening the Finance Management Act. Kubheka was arrested in 2022.
The arrest followed allegations that he irregularly appointed six service providers at the Dr JS Moroka local municipality in Siyabuswa.
The municipality lost R1.8 million due to the irregular appointments.
