The Gauteng Department of Community Safety has welcomed the arrest of two alleged ‘blue light hijackers’ on the N3 highway last night.

In recent months there has been a spate of blue light hijackings that took place along the N3 highway between Villiers and De Hoek Toll Gate.

The suspects were arrested during a joint law enforcement operation.

Acting on a tip-off about the suspects’ vehicle, police found an Audi A4 with false registration plates on the N3 highway in Grootvlei.

“There have been reports about the blue light hijackings that have been taking place along the highways since 2024 between toll gates. Our law enforcement agencies backed up by traffic police reacted to information related to an Audi A4 featured with …. that was involved in a hijacking incident. Two suspects were arrested after a high-speed chase and one of them sustained injuries during the shoot-out,” says Department of Community Safety Spokesperson, Ofentse Morwane.
