The Western Cape Department of Social Development says they are celebrating World Social Work Day today under the theme, “Strengthening Intergenerational Solidarity for Enduring Well-being”.
Western Cape Minister of Social Development, Jaco Londt, says the focus is the need for people to work closer together, across generations, towards a thriving economy and society. He says social workers are vital to building healthy, functioning societies.
Londt says the provincial government employs over 1 100 social work professionals at different levels, such as social workers, social auxiliary workers, supervisors, managers, and social work policy developers.
Londt says the department also funds or subsidises over 1 200 social service professionals on varying levels at Non-Profit Organisations (NPOs).
This year’s focus for World Social Work Day is “Strengthening Intergenerational Solidarity for Enduring Wellbeing”. This theme talks to the need for people to work closer together, across generations, towards a thriving economy & society.
