Joshlin’s mother, Kelly Smith, her boyfriend, Jacquen Appollis, and Steveno van Rhyn are facing charges of kidnapping and trafficking related to the child’s disappearance.
The trial of the three accused in connection with the disappearance of Joshlin Smith continues on Thursday at the High Court sitting in Saldanha on the Cape West Coast.
This week, the court heard testimony from evangelist and part-time handyman Nico Steven Coetzee.
Coetzee testified that in August 2023, Joshlin’s mother, Kelly Smith, told him she was facing the possibility of her children being taken away and indicated she would accept R5 000 if the full amount of R20 000 was not available.
Kelly Smith, her boyfriend Jacquen Appollis, and Steveno van Rhyn are facing charges of kidnapping and human trafficking.
Joshlin went missing on 19 February 2024 and has not been found.
