The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape have reiterated their call for increased policing resources to be allocated for the province following community activist Pamela Mabini’s murder.
Mabini, who was a whistleblower in the Timothy Omotoso rape and trafficking case, was gunned down outside her home in Gqeberha on Friday.
ANC Head of Communications in the province, Gift Ngqondi says, “We have been calling for more deployment of police in particular your TRT (the Tactical Response Team), special forces of police including the National Intervention Unit, in areas like Gqeberha because that area has been riddled with crime.”
Ngqondi says, “Hence, you will see that an activist like this one gets killed so brutally in front of her home and we are reaffirming that the Minister of police must deploy more police in that area because every day there are levels of killings in the area. Just last week, one of the former MK (uMkhonto weSizwe) leaders who works in one of the security organs of the state was also shot and killed in an area called Zwide.”
