Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide following a crash in which 10 people were killed on the N6 between Reddersburg and Smithfield in the Free State.

A two- year-old girl is among the deceased. 27 others were injured.

The crash happened when a bus and a truck collided this morning.  The authorities say one lane of the N6 has been opened.

Meanwhile, the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) has sent a team of crash investigators to the scene of the crash.

“The RTMC has sent a team of investigators to the Free State to begin a probe into the crash that killed ten people in the early hours of this morning. The RTMC reiterates its call for motorists to avoid travelling in the early hours of the morning as information that has been collected over time indicates that most terrible crashes happen at dawn,” says spokesperson Simon Zwane.
