ANC KwaZulu-Natal Task Team Coordinator Mike Mabuyakhulu says the newly-appointed structure will ensure the stability of the government of provincial unity in the province. He says the party is satisfied with its partners in the GPU.

The ANC support in KZN dropped from 54% to 17% after the general elections in May last year. This forced the party to form a government with the IFP, DA and NFP to cling to power.

“We have the experience to do it. The ANC is going the stage a comeback. That one we have no doubt (about), but it will not come because we are saying we will stage a comeback. It will come because we will be working for it,” says Mabuyakhulu.

The ANC interim leadership in KwaZulu-Natal says it’s under no illusion about the work that lies ahead to regain lost grounds.

Leaders of the party held their first meeting after being appointed.

The 67-member PTT has been tasked with rebuilding the party and preparing for the upcoming local government elections. The PTT’s Coordinator Mike Mabuyakhulu says the structure wants to maintain stability in the government of provincial unity.

“The ANC therefore simply is very clear. Our commitment to serve in the government of provincial unity is strong and therefore, we are not talking about any other party or any other arrangement. We want to continue to serve in the government of provincial unity,” Mabuyakhulu added.

Mabuyakhulu says the newly-appointed structure will ensure the accountability of all its deployees in government.

The PTT leadership is expected to hold a media briefing on Wednesday to give details about the outcomes of its inaugural meeting.
