The Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Community Safety is expected to engage with the City of Tshwane Municipality this week to resolve the reported lack of cooperation between the Sunnyside Police Station and the Tshwane Metro Police Department.
During the committee’s oversight visit on Friday, concerns were raised about the alleged non-cooperation between both law enforcement agencies.
The visit was to assess the police station’s performance and operational challenges.
It was part of efforts to address issues faced by 40 poorly performing police stations across Gauteng.
Portfolio committee chairperson, Bandile Masuku explains:
“The committee has committed to working closely with the station and relevant stakeholders to address identified challenges, these include strengthening community policing initiatives to tackle sexual offences and gender-based violence (GBV). Enhancing collaboration between the Sunnyside police station and Tshwane metro police department. Provide additional support and resources to improve the station’s overall performance, particularly about vehicles that stay for months in the repair centres. The committee remains committed to supporting the police in their efforts to reduce crime and improve the safety of all residents in Gauteng.”
