2 minutes

Cross-examination has concluded in the trial of Reinhardt Leach accused of carrying out the 2021 murder of his girlfriend Vicki Terblanche in Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape. The state alleges Leach was hired by Vicki’s estranged husband, Arnold Terblanche to murder her amidst a contentious divorce and custody battle. The two men face charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder. During his cross-examination, Leach also agreed to testify as a state witness against Arnold in his upcoming trial, scheduled for October.

Leach briefly took the stand this morning as state advocate, Marius Stander concluded his cross-examination. Last week, Leach testified that he was offered money and accommodation by Terblanche if he helped him to “get rid” of Vicky. In court, Leach denied smothering Vicki to death however Stander pointed out that Leach had more interest in getting Vicki killed than his co-accused Dylan Cullis. Leach also testified that after the murder, him and Terblanche lied and told Vicky’s son, Rueben that his mother was in hospital with COVID19. The defense and state will conclude with the closing arguments on Thursday 6 March.
