Mpumalanga taxi boss Joe Sibanyoni in court.
The case of taxi boss Joe “Ferrari” Sibanyoni and three co-accused is expected to be re-enrolled in the Delmas Magistrate’s Court in Mpumalanga this Thursday morning.
Sibanyoni’s co-accused are Daniel Masilela, Philemon Msiza and Bafana Sindane.
The matter will return to court a week after Chief Magistrate Tuletu Tonjeni struck it off the roll in the Kwaggafontein Magistrate’s Court following state prosecutor Mkhuseli Ntaba’s failure to appear.
Tonjeni found Ntaba in contempt of court and issued a warrant for his arrest. The National Prosecuting Authority has since applied for leave to appeal the ruling against the prosecutor.
The four are facing charges of extortion and money laundering.
NPA spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago says, “The things that happened here are those that never happened before, so investigating all of these things is very important to us so that we get to the bottom of it. This is the matter that is unprecedented and the way it was handled was unprecedented; that is why we are taking one of these, we are going forward so that nothing of this nature happens again.”
