SACP sponsored Conference of the Left kicks off in Boksburg

The South African Communist Party (SACP) sponsored Conference of the Left starts in Boksburg, east of Johannesburg, on Friday morning.

Over 300 delegates from across the country and representatives from nine international solidarity organisations are expected to attend.

The meeting is called to rebuild unity of the working class and the poor.

Chairperson of the Conference Steering Committee and SACP General Secretary Solly Mapaila says they are working with various social organisations that are doing the work that they are unable to do as political parties.

“So, we want to consolidate the capacity of these various left forces to coordinate and support the struggles in a common program. We are not setting up a new political party; we remain independent organisations here. So the gossip and the lies that were generated about intentions are completely unfounded. If anything, you should know is that we venerate the truth as Communists and we can’t say anything in public that we will not try to do in practice, that’s our posture.”
