Ramaphosa joins King Letsie III to launch Senqu Bridge in Lesotho

President Cyril Ramaphosa will join King Letsie the third and Prime Minister Samuel Matekane to officiate and co-launch the opening of the Senqu Bridge in Mokhotlong, in Lesotho.

This launch marks a landmark achievement under Phase Two of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project.

It also highlights the close cooperation between Lesotho and South Africa.

Constructed for R2.4 billion, the Senqu Bridge is the largest of three bridges spanning the Polihali Reservoir.

As part of Phase II of the project, the bridge will facilitate the transfer of high-quality water to South Africa, generate hydropower for Lesotho, and support the provision of potable water, irrigation, fisheries, and tourism.

The project will increase water transfer volumes from 780 million to 1.27 billion cubic metres per annum, while boosting Lesotho’s hydropower output.

This advances the Kingdom’s progress toward energy security and reduces dependence on imports. The bridge will also serve as a critical link for continuity, connectivity, and long-term regional integration.
