One of two lions spotted on the loose in Mbombela, Mpumalanga, has been captured, with the search continuing for the second animal.
Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency spokesperson Simphiwe Shungube confirmed that one lion had been successfully darted and captured, while the second had since been sighted in the Barberton valley.
“Initially, there were two lions that were on the loose. Our team has successfully darted and captured one of the lions. The second lion remains on the loose and has been sighted in the Barberton valley. Our team is currently on the ground and they are working tirelessly to locate and capture the remaining lion. We will continue to provide updates as the operation progresses,” Shungube said.
