NSFAS stand at an event
Minister in the Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni says government is reviewing the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) in order to enable students whose parents are in the middle-class access to tertiary education.
Ntshavheni says this includes children of government employees who cannot afford to pay for their studies. She was speaking during a Workers’ Day commemoration event in Brakpan, east of Johannesburg on Friday.
“We know that teachers, nurses, clerks, administrators, soldiers and police officers can not afford to put their children through tertiary. Therefore, we want to make sure that there are no children being denied education because their parents are middle-class. Education is a part of their rights that has been achieved through a democratic government and was fought for by their parents in the struggle.”
