New witness to take the stand at Madlanga Commission

A new witness is expected to take the stand at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry on Wednesday morning.

The Commission is set to hear evidence relating to alleged criminality in the Sedibeng area in Gauteng.

The Madlanga Commission was established by President Cyril Ramaphosa last year, following allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi of corruption and political interference in the criminal justice system.

The Madlanga Commission has, thus far, heard testimony from several witnesses from the South African Police Service as well as the Ekurhuleni and Tshwane Metro Police Departments.

The Commission, which was initially given six months to conclude its work, has since been extended until August 2026.

While the first interim report has already been submitted to President Cyril Ramaphosa, a second is expected to be handed over at the end of May 2026.

The final report is due to reach the President’s desk by the end of August 2026.
