Mandisa Maya urges more women in top Judicial posts

Chief Justice Mandisa Maya has urged countries across the continent to appoint more women to senior positions in the judiciary.

She was speaking at the second High-Level Meeting of Women Judicial Leaders of Africa in Sandton, Johannesburg.

The gathering brings together senior women judges from across Africa to strengthen gender-responsive justice systems and expand women’s leadership in the legal sector.

Chief Justice Maya says women must be given meaningful opportunities to shape the future of the justice system on the continent.

“When all the genders are equitably represented, the justice system gains broader perspectives, richer insight, and deeper empathy, thereby enhancing its capacity to deliver justice impartially and inclusively. Therefore, ensuring gender balance within the judiciary is a vital step towards realising the whole promise of justice in society.”
