Kibet Masai smashes Two Oceans Half Marathon record in Cape Town


There were some outstanding performances in the Two Oceans Half Marathon in Cape Town on Sunday. Kenyan runner Felix Kibet Masai claimed victory in the Men’s race, completing the 21.1 km course in 1 hour, 3 minutes and 17 seconds — the fastest time recorded since 2017.

He led a Kenyan clean sweep of the podium, with compatriots Shadrack Ngumbau Musyoka finishing second and Joshua Mengich third.

In the Women’s race, Namibian Lavinia Haitope secured a dominant win in 1 hour, 14 minutes and 36 seconds. She finished well ahead of Fortunate Chidzivo, with Emma Pallant-Browne taking third place.

Race organisers have praised the high level of competition and the electric atmosphere, as thousands of runners took part in one of South Africa’s most iconic road races.
