Fannie Masemola to join Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala in the dock

Suspended National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola is expected to appear with controversial businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and 15 others at the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday morning on charges of contravening the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA).

Masemola’s case forms part of a wider investigation into alleged irregularities in police procurement processes.

The charges stem from the alleged irregular awarding of a contract worth approximately R 228 million to Medicare 24 Tshwane District, a company linked to Matlala.

The state alleges the procurement process did not comply with required financial and supply chain management regulations.

The matter was postponed to May 13, 2026, for further investigations and for the accused to be formally joined on the same charge sheet.
