A former police officer accused of stabbing his wife to death in Barberton in 2023 has pleaded guilty to the murder at the High Court sitting in Mbombela, Mpumalanga.
Lucky Maduna stabbed and killed Nonkululeko Mtsweni with a broken beer bottle and injured her friend during a birthday celebration held at the local tavern.
Maduna’s defence requested that the matter be postponed for a pre-sentencing report.
Judge Takalani Vincent Ratshibvumo cancelled Maduna’s bail.
“The court is satisfied that the accused admits all the elements of the crimes with which he is charged. A verdict of guilty as charged in respect of all the two charges is hereby returned. I am postponing this matter for sentencing proceedings. I have been requested to adjourn for you to acquire pre-sentencing report to 25 May 2026. You will be in custody. Your bail is cancelled and you can tell whoever made the payment for bail (that they) can make a claim with the register of this court,” adds Judge Ratshibvumo.
