Dad accused of rape and murder of 6-year-old daughter back in court

A 32-year-old man from Amahlongwa near Umkomaas, who is accused of raping his six-year-old daughter, is expected back in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court in KwaZulu-Natal on Monday.

Sihle Ntshiza has been charged with rape and murder after Snehlihle Khathi succumbed to injuries.

The accused has been in custody since abandoning a bail application during his previous court appearance.

The girl’s mother, Sinenhlanhla Khathi, said in an earlier interview with the SABC News that she blamed herself for allowing her daughter to live with her father.

Community members, including activists, are expected to gather at the court in solidarity with the bereaved family.

Ntshiza’s court appearance comes as South Africa observes Child Protection Week from May 29 to June 5.

The focus is on strengthening responses to statutory rape and child abuse. -Reporting by Renée Heine
