Brazilian arrested at OR Tambo for trying to smuggle cocaine into SA

Police at Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport have arrested a 26-year-old Brazilian national for attempting to smuggle drugs into the country.

The suspect was apprehended on Saturday after police discovered multiple blocks of cocaine worth an estimated street value of R8.7 million.

Police say intelligence-driven operations led officers to search the suspect’s luggage, where they discovered multiple blocks of cocaine wrapped and concealed inside the bags.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Sunday, facing charges of drug trafficking.
