Bail hearing in Limpopo insurance killings postponed to 12 May

The bail application of eight accused in the insurance-related killings case has been adjourned to mid-May in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court in Limpopo.

The accused allegedly killed nine people for insurance payouts. They are linked to a syndicate allegedly led by former police sergeant Rachel Kutumela.

Magistrate Mpho Gadebe adjourned the matter and reserved several days for the bail hearing.

“This court finds that Mr Mabunda does not work within this court’s jurisdiction. Mr Mabunda is tasked by the national commissioner to investigate offences related to similar offences that the accused are facing. Mr Tharini, you will have to find ways to accommodate this matter because I will not be postponing this matter to the 26th of May but to the 12th of May 2026 and further, this court is also going to reserve the 13th, 14th and 15th of May 2026.”
