Former African National Congress (ANC) Gauteng Chairperson Panyaza Lesufi and former National Council of Provinces (NCOP) Chairperson Amos Masondo have been announced as co-convenors in Gauteng for the newly reconfigured provincial task team.

The announcement was made by ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula in Johannesburg on Wednesday.

The newly appointed provincial task team will also be supported by a working committee.

Mbalula says the newly announced members will focus on building structures and branches as the party gears up to the 2026 local government elections.

“The Deputy Provincial Convener Comrade Ntombi Mekgwe, next to Comrade Panyaza, and Provincial Coordinator next to me, Comrade Hope Papo, and Provincial Deputy Coordinator Nomantu Ralohoko-Nkomo, and Provincial Fundraiser Tasneem Motara.”

‘Confidence in Lesufi’

Mbalula says the party still has confidence in Lesufi. Mbalula says Lesufi’s capabilities, even as Gauteng Premier, have never been in doubt.

“The ANC leadership have shown a vote of confidence in Panyaza’s leadership in government and that is why he is retained. Anything other than that will show that we don’t have confidence in his leadership in government or otherwise.”
