Gautrain expands bus services amid tunnel closure

Gautrain has expanded its bus services between Rosebank and Park Stations to mitigate disruptions caused by the suspension of train operations between the two stations.

The suspension follows an illegal drilling incident on private property above the Gautrain tunnel.

Buses will now run every 15 minutes from 5:30 AM to 8:30 PM.

Gautrain CEO Tshepo Kgobe acknowledges the inconvenience, stating that while the additional buses will help, the usual efficiency of the service will be affected.

“A four-car train at full capacity carries about 409 passengers. To accommodate that volume, at least seven buses are needed per train arrival,” Kgobe explains.  “We currently have 125 buses, with around 100 deployed, while others are in maintenance or on standby.”

The situation continues to impact commuters, with authorities working on a resolution.
