Gauteng Provincial Police Commissioner Tommy Mthombeni says they have information that could lead to the arrest of suspects wanted in connection with the alleged assault and sexual abuse at Zanzou nightclub in Pretoria.

Three victims have come forward to report the ordeal following viral graphic videos on social media of the 2023 incident which appears to show security personnel using excessive force against patrons.

Zanzou management has denied claims that the incidents were linked to unpaid bills, instead attributing them to allegations of cellphone theft.

Mthombeni says investigations are underway.

“Following a call by the SAPS for victims to come forward, the SAPS confirms that only three victims aged 20, 21 and 22 reported at the Brooklyn police station on Monday evening. According to the victims, they were a group of five friends who were subjected to the abuse. Police are confident that the other two victims will be traced and their statements will also be included in the docket.”

“We condemn the incident in its strongest terms. The incident itself it’s inhumane, it’s degrading, barbaric and is totally unacceptable. We haven’t arrested anyone yet, but I must indicate that we have information which clearly reflects as to say who is responsible for the incident,” adds Mthombeni.
