A piece of arid land
The DA has filed papers in the Western Cape High Court, challenging the recent Expropriation Act.
The Act was signed into law by President Cyril Ramaphosa last month.
The party seeks to have the Act, which it argues is unconstitutional, nullified in its entirety.
The DA, in papers, however, seeks among other things, an order which will effectively declare the Act inconsistent with the Constitution and invalid.
To support this challenge, the DA raises several grounds including the constitutionality of the process of adopting the Act.
In addition, the party will also raise that the Act is “vague and contradictory” in several clauses, which according to the DA renders it unconstitutional.

The DA will oppose the Act to the bitter end, as we believe the Act undermines constitutional principles and opens the door to power abuse by taking people’s property… pic.twitter.com/hbmNgBKM7z
