EFF wants citizenship of those who opt for US refugee status revoked

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is calling for the revoking of all citizenships of individuals who will assume refugee status in the USA on the basis of American President Donald Trump’s recent executive order.

The Trump administration signed an order cutting funding aid to South Africa and providing opportunities for settlement in the USA for white Afrikaners.

The EFF has described this move as an ill-veiled targeting of South Africa brought on by its support of Palestine.

The party has called for the strengthening of relations with China and Russia as well as other BRICS nations in the wake of Trump’s attacks on South Africa.

Meanwhile, the Board of Directors of Universities South Africa (USAf) has expressed outrage over the United States federal government’s recent decision to freeze international aid in the quest to stay true to President Donald Trump’s “America first” policy stance.

USAf says this decision will have a severely negative impact on critical research which is currently being conducted across the globe.

USAf says the challenges facing humanity in the 21st century are both local and global in nature, necessitating system-to-system research collaborations more than ever before, if nations are to find lasting solutions to these common challenges.

USAf Chairperson Professor Francis Petersen says by withdrawing foreign aid, the Trump administration risks undoing progress realised in joint programmes, thus diminishing its global standing in the fight against poverty, hunger, disease, and natural disasters.
