ConCourt dismisses Zuma’s appeal bid against Ramaphosa

1 minute

The Constitutional Court has refused former President Jacob Zuma’s appeal bid on the private prosecution of his successor President Cyril Ramaphosa.

The apex court found that there were no reasonable prospects of success on the merits of the appeal.

The appeal relates to the former President’s pursuit of a private prosecution of his successor – which was invalidated by the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg.

Zuma sought to privately prosecute the incumbent in his corruption trial before the KZN High Court in Pietermaritzburg for the alleged leak of his health records.

The private prosecution currently enrolled in the criminal court of the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg, which has faced several postponements due to appeals, is expected to return to court on February 6, 2025.

Zuma’s latest failure to revive the private prosecution bid may bring this chapter to a close on that date.
